making this to talk about the jailbroken Calculator but also for anyone else to talk about jailbreaking things in because thats pretty fun :}
turns out that newer models of TI-84 Plus CE calculators are lacking in the assembly command, but theres an exploit called artifice that kinda allows programs to still be run!
also there was only TI calculators at the lace i got it from so i couldnt have went with a different one. anyways the only limiting factor with it right now is the RAM storage amount, i think its around 100KB? all it really involved when jailbreaking it was dragging files around to have them copied over

I did not know you could even jailbreak a TI calculator. What exactly is jail broken about it?
My experience with those calculators is writing BASIC programs on them, I’ve never gone deeper than that

Side note but between you posting this and me talking with my partner, I have decided to pull out my graphing calculators. I have a TI-82, TI-83 Plus, and a TI-84 Plus. Alas, my AAA’s were all dead so I couldn’t boot any of them up
I got them on the charger tho, so hopefully when I wake up later I can see if all the programs I wrote are still on them. It’s 2:30, I gotta go to bed

well, from 5.5 (i think) and up, they removed the asm( command, which would have let people run programs that needed the assembly command to run, OS's are something else the jailbreak allows, i forgot why though. Artifice essentially restores those functions thus making the calculator jailbroken, also with the ones you had listed, if they havent updated, you should still be able to send games to them to run, also youre able to run doom on them, its only a black and white version of it though, no one has put doom on a colour edition calculator that ive seen yetNeververy4 wrote: ↑September 2nd, 2024, 1:38 pm I did not know you could even jailbreak a TI calculator. I will have to remember that
thanks for the info!
I had to do work on my three
the 84 has a very expanded backup battery
, the 83 wouldn't even turn on until I dismantled it and soaked the battery contact pads in vinegar, and the 82 is (still) broken. I forgot about the history on it, I bought it from a thrift store and it wouldn't power on. After giving it a straight up vinegar bath, it now will somewhat work, but it's clear the calculator has a rough past with bad batteries
Anyways, I do have two working ones now
Looking back at the BASIC programs I wrote on the TI-83 PLUS has reminded me about my love of programming
It's been a bit, and now I wanna mess with it again. All the programs I made for both the 83 and 84 I did straight through the calculator; I've never hooked either one of these two up to a computer. So making fancy splash screens.. heh, well, last night I got reminded how tedious it was to print 16 equal signs on the screen.
